Dear Students, Graduates and Friends,

The New Year has greeted Dolphin with a full class of 20 Boot Camp students.  Half are new students.  The other half are alumni.  Sometimes taking the intensive 10-week Boot Camp may be overwhelming and the information only half absorbed.  The second time around may be more beneficial.  There are also others who just want the continued support in class.  But the best thing about Boot Camp is that the learning continues to evolve and improve as more current and useful information is brought into the curriculum.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.  Dolphin's Bible Study Group will meet at Dolphin Health & Education on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:15 PM once a week beginning on January 13.  This 5-month course addresses the spiritual balance in Dolphin's Raw Food Lifestyle.  It answers the questions:  Who is God?  Where did we come from?  Why are we here?  Where are we going?  If you are interested to sign up or wish for more information, please call 541-857-2678.  There is NO FEE to join this study group.

2.  Raw Vegan Potluck - Thursday night January 14 at 5 PM.  Medford SDA Church Fireside Room, 1900 Greenwood, Medford, OR.  For more info on what to bring, contact Joz at 541-779-2804 or email WyjozU2@aol.com.  Please bring your own plates and utensils.

3.  Health Lecture - Dr. James Said, DC, ND Thursday night January 14 at 6 PM (after the potluck).  Medford SDA Church Fireside Room, 1900 Greenwood, Medford, OR.

Dolphin's Healthy Boot Camp inside news:

For the 2010 Boot Camps, I have added the Clinical Rounds for each of the class sessions except for the first.  The clinical rounds will stimulate a lively discussion on particular health conditions.  It is reminiscent of going on hospital rounds but with a holistic approach to learn more about specific diseases or conditions and the clinical intervention taken.  The content is intended for public education.

I have also expanded the coverage of Detoxification because this is the basis where natural self-healing can be maximally optimized.  Eating healthy foods by itself may stop the toxins from accumulating in the body and thereby reduce the progression of disease.  Eating healthy foods may also improve the symptoms of a disease.  Add to this picture a lifestyle improvement, and it may seem all is well.  But NO, it is not all well!  The cause of the disease is not yet fully addressed.  The accumulated toxins must be irradicated from the body for maximal healing to occur.  This is where the topic of detoxification comes into view.  The definition of detoxification must also be stated because the terminology differs among the different health specialties.

Herbal Remedies have also entered the Boot Camp curriculum so that people will have some knowledge of what herbs are available for different types of symptoms.  It must not be misconstrued as a prescribed treatment but rather as a general education.  A person interested in persuing herbal treatment should consult an appropriately trained health professional.

The topic of Rest is expanded and merged with the Intelligent Design of the human body since it fits the spiritual aspect of a healthy lifestyle.  The student will come forth with a profound understanding, respect and gratitude for the Master Designer.  The body, mind and spirit must be balanced to realize the highest level of health and wellness.

Athletic and Sports Nutrition as it is applied in the raw food lifestyle has been included especially where human performance is sought after.  I have found no other health professional that could equal the credentials, knowledge and experience of Dr. Doug Graham who has been training high level world-class athletes for decades.  It is with pleasure to have Dr. Graham instruct in the topic of athletic and sports nutrition.

I have also expanded the exercise component of the lifestyle program.  The Boot Camp Exercise Program will cover some aspects of exercise science, physiology, exercise specificity and individualized programs.  Students will learn how to safely progress in exercises to maximize aerobic fitness and/or strength gains.  Students will learn to selectively emphasize gain in lean mass.

The new Boot Camp food recipe book is the latest publication, Ten Talents, by Frank Hurd, DC, MD and Rosalie Hurd, BS.  The first publication was in 1968.  Their experience in teaching the vegan diet is unequaled as their qualifications combined.  There are over 675 pages in this recipe book full of color photos and user-friendly instructions in food preparation and food combining.  I personally know Dr. and Mrs. Hurd.  The student will find the foods delicious, nutritious, and entertaining.

The rest of the topics in the Boot Camp have been revised with new information added.  As is customary, every class session has a food sampler.  A recipe menu for the week is also included.  There is at least one Live Food Prep dedicated to a class session taught by Amy Donato, PT.  She has a great love and gift for preparing raw gourmet food as well as simple everyday raw dishes.

I have also included approximately 40 additional hours of outside class learning as assignments (including online).  The total learning hours from the 10-Week Dolphin's Healthy Boot Camp has increased to a hefty 60-62 hours completed upon graduation up from approximately 22-25 hours!

Dolphin Health & Education will graduate students of Dolphin's Healthy Boot Camp as fully equipped as possible with the working knowledge, practical application and troubleshooting solutions in the raw vegan lifestyle.

The good news about our health and wellness is that it comes from "above, down, and inside out."

Blessings,

Miven Donato, DPT, DC
