1. Health Minister Reunion. My time at Hallelujah Acres from April 16 to 19 was well spent. I received recognition as outstanding health minister. I spoke to a large audience of health ministers about how I started my health ministry in 2006 here in Medford, Oregon. I also mentioned the struggles I went through trying to promote the lifestyle. And I encouraged the health ministers to do their best in sharing this wonderful lifestyle.
I gained more new information while there. I renewed my acquaintance with George Malkmus, founder of The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle, and his wife Rhonda, author of the book Recipes for Life. I also met Dr. Russell Blaylock, MD who gave an excellent presentation on preventing heart attacks, strokes and atherosclerosis. He is the author of the book, Excitotoxins, The Taste That Kills. He is an expert on the topic of MSG and Aspartame. He is a board certified neurosurgeon, natural health advocate, and expert on the topic of toxic metals. Here are some excerpts from the lecture I found interesting:50 percent of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels. Here are other factors that are more important, with regards to heart attacks, lipoprotein A, homocysteine, CRP (inflammation), and triglycerides.Statin drugs are anti-inflammatory (immune suppressants). Some improve immune function. All statin drugs increases risk for cancers, cataracts, and are associated with memory loss, amnesia and cognitive dysfunction (dose and time related).
I also listened to the lecture of Nancy Appleton, PhD, author of the book, Lick the Sugar Habit. She has written other books as well. Here are some interesting excerpts from her lecture:Sugar upsets the body chemistry by depleting the body of minerals. As a result the enzymes cannot work. The undigested food (or partially digested) gets into the blood stream (leaky gut) leading to allergies. This is not new information in nutritional biochemistry. But this information is probably unknown to the public. Correct me if I’m wrong. Here’s something really interesting. According to Dr. Appleton, if dairy, wheat, and sugar are removed from the diet, we would be 80 percent free of diseases! The speed and the amount of sugar that goes in the body is what cause problems. When we think about sugar, it is not the glucose that causes problems but rather the fructose! Corn syrup (sweetener) is in all processed foods and is 70 percent fructose.
2. Clent’s Green Smoothie Experiment II update. As you have followed from April’s newsletter, Clent lost 102 pounds in 14 weeks! That’s 24.4 pounds of fat lost, and the remainder mostly from extra water, muscle and intestinal build up. He is now at week 16 and 111 lbs lighter. Currently he is on Phase 2 of the weight loss program, which includes exercising 3 times per week at the gym for an hour and a half. The gym program includes aerobic exercise and high intensity anaerobic weight training. Beginning this weekend I added jogging/running intervals for a mile at a local high school track. The goal for Clent is to achieve 170 pounds by Christmas this year. That would represent a total weight loss of 230 pounds within 1 year (but to be more realistic, by summer 2009). People have asked if losing this much weight in a short time can become a problem. Yes, most people who lose a lot of weight in a short time are due to reducing the food portions and focusing on high protein and low carbs in their dietary regimen besides exercises. This leads to malnutrition and a significant loss of energy and of course catabolic breakdown of the body. In contrast, Clent’s program is not reducing food portion, rather it is a combination of high nutrient-dense, high complex carbohydrate, low fat, low protein, high fiber, low calorie food intake and frequency. There is no cooked food in this program. That is why he is not malnourished. His energy remains high, a good sign of superior health!
3. NEW! Get Healthy Lifestyle is a new short course on diet, nutrition and lifestyle offered by the Medford Parks & Recreation with me as the instructor. This course is not intensive and does not cover the depth of the Get Healthy Boot Camp program. It focuses more on getting started on the high raw diet and basics of food combination. The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle is introduced in this course. All Medford residents have received in the mail last week the 2008 summer issue of the Community Connection catalog sent out by the MPR Department. The lifestyle course is offered in 3 sessions of the same course for people to choose. Refer to page 29 of the catalog. Session 1 is June 12 and 19. Session 2 is July 10 and 17. Session 3 is August 14 and 21. The cost for the course is $39/person (resident) and $45/person (non-resident). The scheduled dates are on Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Santo Community Center in Medford. To register, call MPR Department 541-774-2400.
4. NEW! Green Smoothie Drive-Thru in Medford. Finally we have a drive-thru for people that love fresh green smoothies, fresh carrot juice, wheat grass and other vegetable juices that meet the Hallelujah Diet standards. Epic Espresso Coffee Store & Juice Bar at 3309 Biddle Rd (282-7889) in Medford across the airport opened the second week of this month. The owner is Cynthia Biondi. She is a Get Healthy Boot Camp student graduating next Tuesday. Medford is a coffee-loving city (as all the towns and cities in this valley), which is why organic coffee is offered besides the green smoothies and vegetable juices in hopes of educating and winning the public to select healthier foods and drinks! Congratulations Cynthia! Let’s give her our support and stop by her store to get a drink. Share this information with your families and friends.
5. Dolphin’s Annual Mt. Whitney Hiking Expedition is now finalized for Tuesday September 2, 2008 (the day after Labor Day). This is a hike that is done all in one day. We drive to Lone Pine, CA on Sunday or Monday. Then early Tuesday morning at 3:00 AM we meet at the Whitney Trailhead. The total roundtrip mileage is approximately 25 miles or 15 hours (including the 1 hour rest at the top). It takes approximately 8-9 hours to reach the summit. It takes approximately 6 hours to get back down. This is a beautiful, exhilirating, spectacular, challenging, and strenuous hike. This is one hike you will never forget! It is so much fun that we do this every year! Of course this hike is only for health people! The hike serves as a goal for those who are pursuing nutritional excellence and superior health (that’s if you enjoy the outdoors). Dolphin’s day hike permit allows up to 15 persons in the group. There are already several persons signed up but we will confirm this by next week. If there are openings remaining and you are interested to join the group or if you want more information, call 857-2678 or email dmiven@msn.com. Acceptance is by first come first serve basis. There is a $15 fee per person. This hike will be my 4th time since I changed my diet in 2004.
